Asheville UPdate #4...

We gave a couple of family members from away an up close drive around, drive thru, go over tour of our so broken city yesterday. Seeing it "for real" was just beyond their imaginations. As I have said, pictures don't convey the immensity of the destruction.
Progress is happening with some stores, shops and restaurants slowly reopening and groceries shelves are being stocked. We still have no drinkable water and we are being told if we are lucky we may have it by Christmas so the need to boil water is on going. Thankfully the military and Red Cross are still handing out drinkable water, food, blankets, laundry and bathing areas at well organized sites in parking lots positioned at multiple areas in the city.
Flickers of renewal are being seen. The piles of 20 and 30 foot stacks of debris are still lining our streets and most are now open to traffic. Biltmore Village shops, the River Arts district, and some of our many well known restaurants and breweries will take years to recover if they do. Our beloved city in the mountains will rebuild and come back but it will never be the city we moved to and loved for the past twenty five years...it will be different...just like the America we once loved...it will be different...

...bah boom, bah boom, bah boom... To say my summer of 2024 was different from any other in my years of summers would be an understatement.  Life changing in fact expresses my summer accurately.   Getting a cardiologist to join my health team consisting of a primary care doc, a dermatologist, an eye doctor, a dentist, an orthopedic doc and after spending #21 sessions in Cardiac Rehab with dozens of other fortunate souls to still be seen and not merely viewed, I fully realized just how fortunate I was to be alive!  I have, as most of you know, spent most of my life in gyms. A Point of View...Trans in Sports

 ...a volatile and difficult issue to discuss and to elucidate. Why is this issue so emotional and so polarizing? People fear what they don't understand so a world of phobias exist...discrimination at every level and of every kind. People that are different than those who view them... religious indoctrination... A lack of appropriate education pertaining to understanding labels like  Bisexual/ Gay/ Lesbian/ Transgender/ Queer/Pansexual/ Non-binary and Transvestite to name a few.  It is  important to know that not all transgendered people are gay. Gay is not synonymous with all of these labels, being different is. These topics cannot be discussed without mentioning the word " SEX " and once that word is read or spoken most people's minds immediately go somewhere else.  Put " sex " and "sports" in the same dialogue and it's volcanic!  Highly combustible words elicit strong emotional convictions. MY Dry January Insights...

I simply altered the Dry January to a Damp January. My acquired insights through the following months were anything but simple… So this is how it all began back in 2011… A British woman named Emily Robinson gave up alcohol in 2011 while preparing to run a marathon. The Dry January gained support in the U.S. and I have read that 15 to 35 % of U.S. drinkers took part in the challenge and that estimates say about 35 to 40% of Americans plan on trying a Dry January but that only about 16% actually continue through the entire month.   January 1, 2024… I was starting the day and I decided that I would limit the number of times I drank in a full week as well as limiting myself to no more than two standard glasses at any time.  The counting began.
