Minis, Boxes, Cans...

Warmer days are coming and with it comes the call for some new found "refreshing" sipping beverage and the marketing world has blasted ahead to meet that call.

The domestic wine industry (winemakers in this country) are attempting to compete with the huge beverage business and are working to keep themselves in the game.  Hard teas, seltzers, beers, wines and spirits are being packaged in just about anything that will hold and protect the liquid!

Mini squeezables (frozen slushies), slim cans and short boxes that can easily be placed in coolers or over ice are taking over the packaging world.  They make it easy to "pack in and pack out" and most are lower in alcohol (except Spirits) so they can be easily enjoyed for hours on summer outings.

The beverage market has always been extremely competitive within their ranks and the marketing venues have managed to confuse and mislead many consumers as the shelves are flushed with brightly colored and bold font beverage holders. It even comes down to the competition among all these products as to what level shelf their product is going to be placed on in any particular retail establishment.  The old "you scratch my back, I'll scratch yours" is stronger than ever.  Take the time when you shop for your beverages to check the alcohol content which must be on the label by law. Also check the cost per ounce for a 750 liter (regular wine bottle size) and a slim can of the same brand as this new packaging is not coming to us cheaply.

Again, find what you like, enjoy it the way you like and be safe.
Cheers to a warmer season!

  1. There are few brands that I enjoy in a can. Handy for a short trip or sipping outside, on the beach or at the tailgate. I don’t understand the “squeezable” ones. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
